Legal Nurse Consultant

Legal Nurse Consultant (LNC) do the following:

  • Serve as liaisons between the medical and legal disciplines
  • Identifying standards of care, causation, and damage issues
  • conducting research and summarizing medical literature
  • educating attorneys regarding medical facts and issues relevant to the case
  • identifying and determining damages and related costs of services
  • assisting with depositions and trials
  • organizing medical records and other medically related litigation materials

Education Requirements

  • Although you do not need to be certified in order to practice as a legal nurse consultant, professional certification recognizes an individual's experience and demonstrated knowledge in their chosen field of expertise. Certification for legal nurse consultants is available through the American Legal Nurse Consultant Certification Board (ALNCCB).

Salary

  • Usually paid under contract with hourly billing. Compensation varies with scope of responsibility, level of experience, and geographic area, among other factors.
